Joey & John over the years...
Joey & John have showcased their talent weekly for more than twenty years in Central New York venues including Turning Stone Casino, Pine Tree Point in Alexandria Bay, the former Castaways on the River in Brewerton, Lemoyne Manor, the Cabaret, Soft Rock Cafe, ...and many other local clubs that rocked with dancing feet late into Central New York nights, some of which are now just a memory! Joey & John are still rockin' on but are equally at home in the concert arena, outdoor festivals, supper club/cabaret, or private parties! Joey & John will bring back the memories and add variety to any occasion, bar, restaurant, festival or concert with their musical presentations:
ROCK GENERATION with Joey & John: Make it a ’50s sock hop, a ’70s party...or a mix of 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s rock/pop/oldies, disco, blues and swing. You can hear song samples from Rock Generation and Joey and John's CD "By Request" on the ROCK GENERATION page on this website.
THAT's AMORE with Joey & John: You don’t have to be Italian-American to enjoy an evening with Joey & John as they perform and celebrate the songs of great Italian-American singers like Connie Francis, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra; rockers Dion DiMucci, Frankie Valli and Bobby Rydell, just to name a few and Italian language songs made popular in America over the past decades.
This fun show can be presented as a cabaret/dinner show or several set lists for an evening of great music from a time...to borrow a headline from the Wall St. Journal, “When Italians Ruled the Airwaves.” You can listen to a demo on the THAT's AMORE page of this website.
AFTER FIVE with Joey & John: In his book, Intimate Nights: The Golden Age of New York Cabaret, James Gavin brings back to life, the atmosphere of the glamorous Manhattan nightclubs of the late 1940s through the 60s...Le Ruban Bleu, the Blue angel, the Bon Soir...and the singers, the songs and the club owners who created this illusion. This book holds a prominent position on the bookcases in their home...and Joey and John hope to recreate the romance of this era and the intimacy of cabaret style performing in a restaurant near you. You can listen to samples from their CD, After Five on the AFTER FIVE page here on this website.
John Nilsen's musical arrangements can drive a dance floor as well as inspire the heart! His creativity and use of technology enables him to achieve a sound which formerly required many musicians on stage. He sings and plays keyboard, Fender "Stratocaster" and Gibson "Flying V" guitars.
John spent fifteen years "on the road" with several show bands including Sunny Skies, The Gene Belletiere Show, and The Gene Ferrari Show. He was musical director, bassist and singer for The Gene Ferrari Show and appeared at a wide variety of venues– The Alladin Hotel in Las Vegas, Harrah's Resort in Atlantic City, The El Conquistador in Puerto Rico, The Americana Hotels in Aruba and Miami Beach, and numerous Sheraton and Holiday Inn showrooms nationwide and in Canada.
Joey has been performing since her early teen years in local musical theater productions. She also stage managed productions at Salt City Performing Arts Center under the late Joe Lotito. A smooth and accomplished singer, she is known for her vocal range and versatility! With her strong dramatic sense and cabaret style, she can charm you as a "50's girl-singer," growl a blues tune, seductively purr a torch song, belt out a Broadway showstopper, drawl a Patsy Cline heart breaker, or wail a rock and roll tune!
Joey is a charter (and founding) board member of the Syracuse Area Landmark Theatre and a graduate of S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. After working in media/publishing in Manhattan early in her career, Joey took the opportunity to return to that field as co-host and co-producer of Ciao! an Italian American radio program on WCNY Classic FM (91.3 on your FM dial) which airs every Sunday at noon. She shares the mic with co-host Jim Battaglia playing great Italian American and Italian music and featuring an endless variety of topics! John is co-producer of this fun, fun radio show (www.wcny.org/radio). She maintains her ties to New York City as a member of the Manhattan Association of Cabaret Artists and is an avid supporter of the great talent keeping cabaret, this intimate form of entertainment alive.
